Uphar Chamoli

Dr Chamoli is a spine biomechanics expert, with a background in mechanical engineering and computational biomechanics. Uphar received his Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology in Dhanbad (2008), Masters in Computational Biomechanics from UNSW (2012), and his Ph.D. in Spine Biomechanics from UNSW (2016). In 2016, Uphar was awarded a Ph.D. in Spine Biomechanics from the University of New South Wales (UNSW), Sydney.

At Spine Service, Uphar oversees day-to-day operations of the spine biomechanics laboratory, located on St. George Hospital premises. He is involved in all aspects of spine biomechanics research, and uses a holistic approach to understand the underlying causes of low back pain.

From biomechanical testing on cadaveric kangaroo spines to developing geometrically accurate computer models of human lumbar spine to analysis of patient's clinical and radiographic data, the research team at Spine Service is at the cutting-edge of spine biomechanics research.
