Dr Jose Umali

Dr Jose Umali is our current Spine Surgery Fellow, training under Dr Ashish Diwan. 2016-2018

Dr Umali graduated from the De La Salle Health Sciences Institute College of Medicine in 2009. He then underwent orthopaedic residency training at the De La Salle University Medical Centre and served as Chief Resident for two years. He became Diplomate of the Philippine Board of Orthopaedics in 2015.

Upon completing his Spine Fellowship, Dr Umali plans to return to the Philippines and take up practice in Cavite and Batangas, two provinces south of the Manila. He will make good use of the knowledge and skills he is acquiring from training to better serve people in need of proper care and treatment of the spine. In the future, he would also like to return to his alma mater in order teach and train medical students and orthopaedic trainees.

Dr Umali has co-written a chapter on pyogenic spondylodiscitis with Dr Ashish Diwan, as well as co-written a chapter on current designs of total disc arthroplasty for the lumbar spine.
